How coaching works

Everything happens by secure video. You start with a free call, and only pay for coaching sessions you choose to book afterwards.

  1. Step 1

    Book a free intro call

Pick a time below, or contact the practice with any questions first. Nothing is paid until you choose a coaching session.

  2. Step 2

    Talk it through

A 15-minute video call with Andy about what you are dealing with, and an honest account of what coaching can and cannot offer.

  3. Step 3

    Build the systems

50-minute sessions, usually weekly, building one layer at a time: routines, environment, task management, follow-through.

  4. Step 4

    Space out and finish

As the systems bed in, sessions space out. The aim is that you need less coaching over time, not more.

Fees and booking

The intro call is free. Coaching sessions are £75 for 50 minutes, booked and paid one at a time.

Andy Patrick, ADHD and behaviour-change coach

Andy Patrick

ADHD and behaviour-change coach

  • 15 yearscoaching one-to-one
  • 15,000+sessions delivered

Andy founded Andy Patrick Coaching in 2010 and has coached one-to-one ever since: fifteen years of practice and more than 15,000 sessions. His experience also includes the role of Lead Wellness Educator at Gleneagles Townhouse in Edinburgh.

His ADHD work centres on the areas where ADHD bites hardest in adult life: task initiation, routine, procrastination, motivation and follow-through. He holds the ADHD Coach Certification from Efficient Coach, and has completed the STILL Method ADHD Coaching Practitioner Certification, a structured, neurodivergent-affirming training covering executive function, emotional dysregulation and the nervous-system differences that shape how ADHD shows up day to day.

His grounding goes beyond coaching technique. He has studied psychodynamic counselling at the University of Oxford, is trained in motivational interviewing and Mental Health First Aid, and is safeguarding trained.

Sessions are calm, structured and free of judgement. The aim is not to make you operate like everyone else; it is to build reliable systems around how your attention and motivation actually work.

What coaching works on

Each session starts from what is actually happening in your week. Over time the work usually covers some or all of these.

  • Getting started

When beginning is the hardest part. You work out small, concrete first steps and the cues that get a task moving, rather than waiting to feel ready.

  • Routines

Mornings, evenings and the parts of the week that keep slipping. Routines are built around how your attention really works, then adjusted until they hold.

  • Planning and time

Breaking the week into steps you will actually take, with realistic estimates and room for the things that always take longer than expected.

  • Organisation

Systems for paperwork, deadlines, bills and the things that get lost, kept simple enough to survive a busy week.

  • Procrastination and motivation

Spotting the patterns behind putting things off, and planning around your energy and interest rather than against them.

  • Follow-through

Finishing what you start. Each session looks honestly at what happened since the last one, without judgement, and adjusts the plan.

With your explicit consent, Andy can send a brief summary of your coaching goals and progress to the clinician who referred you. Anything about diagnosis, medication or mental health treatment goes back to your psychiatrist or GP.

Where coaching fits

Most of daily life with ADHD happens between appointments: the morning that falls apart, the email that never gets sent, the project that stalls at the first step. Coaching works in that space. Caledonian Psychiatry offers structured ADHD coaching with Andy Patrick, an experienced ADHD and behaviour-change coach contracted to the practice.

Coaching is practical, skills-based support that runs alongside your clinical care rather than replacing it. It is entirely optional: it is never a condition of psychiatric care at the practice, and declining it changes nothing about your treatment. Where you consent, coaching goals are aligned with your psychiatrist’s treatment plan, so your clinical care and your coaching pull in the same direction.

You do not need to be a patient of the practice to book. Coaching does not require a psychiatric assessment with us, and GPs, psychiatrists and therapists are welcome to signpost adults with diagnosed or suspected ADHD who would benefit from structured support.

A diagnosis explains the past. Medication can sharpen focus. The routines are built in between.

What coaching is
Practical, skills-based support. It does not include diagnosis, prescribing or medical treatment, and it does not replace them.
Regulation
Our Healthcare Improvement Scotland registration (03427) covers the psychiatric services our doctors provide. Coaching is a separate, non-clinical service from a coach contracted to the practice, and sits outside that registration.
Your records
Your coach cannot see your clinical record. Information passes between your coach and your psychiatrist only with your explicit consent.
Always your choice
Coaching is never a condition of psychiatric care, declining it changes nothing about your treatment, and you are free to work with any coach.
Concerns
Handled under the practice complaints policy.
In an emergency
Coaching is not a crisis service, and neither is the practice. If anyone is at immediate risk, call 999, go to A&E, or call NHS 24 on 111 (crisis page).
