Caledonian Psychiatry is not an emergency service and does not provide crisis intervention or out-of-hours care. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or need urgent help, please contact one of the services below.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to your nearest Accident and Emergency department.
Scotland
Breathing Space
Call 0800 83 85 87. A free, confidential phone line for anyone in Scotland aged 16 and over who is feeling low, anxious, or distressed.
Available Monday to Thursday 6pm to 2am and from Friday 6pm through to Monday 6am, providing 24-hour weekend cover.
Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH)
Call 0344 800 0550. Information, support, and signposting for anyone affected by mental health problems in Scotland.
NHS Lothian mental health resources
Information on local mental health services, self-help materials, and support options across Edinburgh, East Lothian, West Lothian, and Midlothian.
East Lothian Mental Health Support Line
Call 0300 790 6292 for information, advice, and access to local mental health services.
Eastspace (www.eastspace.org.uk) provides an online directory of East Lothian mental health and wellbeing services.
UK-wide services
NHS 24 (Scotland) or NHS 111 (England, Wales)
Call 111 for urgent health concerns including mental health, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In Scotland, NHS 24 can connect you with urgent out-of-hours mental health support and arrange GP contact.
Samaritans
Call 116 123, free, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can also email jo@samaritans.org.
Samaritans provide confidential, non-judgemental emotional support for anyone who is struggling.
Shout
Text SHOUT to 85258, free, available 24/7. Confidential text-based crisis support for anyone in the UK.
Your GP
Your GP practice should be your first point of contact for urgent mental health concerns during working hours. If your practice is closed, call 111.
England
NHS urgent mental health helpline
Call 111 and select the mental health option to be connected with your local crisis team. You can also search for your nearest urgent mental health helpline at www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health/find-an-urgent-mental-health-helpline.
Mind
Call 0300 123 3393, Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm. Information and support for anyone affected by mental health problems.
Wales
C.A.L.L. (Community Advice and Listening Line)
Call 0800 132 737, free, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also text help to 81066.
Confidential emotional support and mental health information for anyone in Wales.
Northern Ireland
Lifeline
Call 0808 808 8000, free, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Northern Ireland’s dedicated crisis response helpline for anyone experiencing distress or despair. You can also access support by text on 0786 803 4461.

For non-urgent queries you can email admin@caledonianpsychiatry.co.uk. We aim to acknowledge non-urgent messages within 48 hours. This inbox is not monitored outside working hours and must not be used in an emergency. If you need urgent help, please use the services listed above.
