Dr Abderahman Kamaledeen
Associate Specialist Psychiatrist at Caledonian Psychiatry. Adult ADHD and general adult psychiatric care by video in London, England and wider Scotland.
Associate Specialist Psychiatrist
Associate Specialist Psychiatrist | BSc, MBBS (Distinction), MRCPsych | GMC 7496971
Background and training
Dr Kamaledeen was born in Saudi Arabia and spent his early childhood in Egypt before his family settled in Edinburgh — the city he grew up in and still calls home. He moved to London to study medicine at King’s College London, completing an intercalated BSc in Surgery and Anaesthesia in 2012 and graduating MBBS with distinction in 2015.
His early career pointed firmly towards surgery, with posts in general surgery and ear, nose and throat surgery, alongside a period in business development in the digital health sector. But a pattern kept asserting itself on the wards: he was consistently more drawn to his patients’ psychological difficulties — their worries, their histories, the lives behind the operations — than to the procedures themselves. Rather than ignore that, he retrained in psychiatry, and has never looked back.
He commenced psychiatric training in 2021 on the Maudsley training programme in London — one of the largest and best-known psychiatric training schemes in the world — gaining broad experience across community, inpatient and crisis settings, and obtained membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2025. He moved into private practice later that year with a focus on adult ADHD alongside general adult mental health. Since late 2025 he has worked — and continues to work — at another leading private psychiatric practice in Edinburgh, building substantial experience in private psychiatry with a particular focus on neurodiversity.
Registration and clinical role
Dr Kamaledeen is fully registered with the General Medical Council with a licence to practise (GMC 7496971) and holds membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). At Caledonian Psychiatry he works as an Associate Specialist Psychiatrist, seeing adults aged 18 and over for ADHD assessment, medication titration, annual review and shared care handover to GPs, as well as general adult psychiatric assessment. From September 2026 he also offers autism assessment. Based in London himself, he sees adults by secure video in London, across England and throughout wider Scotland.
In the interests of transparency: like all doctors who have not completed Higher Specialist Training and received a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), Dr Kamaledeen is not on the GMC Specialist Register, and he does not use the title “Consultant Psychiatrist”. Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists is the standard postgraduate qualification in the field, and his work is dedicated entirely to direct patient care.
Dr Kamaledeen is proficient in Arabic and is happy to offer consultations in Arabic where patients prefer it.
A personal understanding. Dr Kamaledeen was himself diagnosed with ADHD during his foundation years as a doctor — a discovery that made sense of lifelong patterns and difficulties. That experience gives him a particular affinity with adults diagnosed later in life who are working to make sense of their own histories, and with the occupational burnout that so often precedes a diagnosis. He knows first-hand that an assessment is rarely just a clinical exercise: for many people it is the moment a lifetime of experiences finally falls into place.
Clinical interests and approach
Dr Kamaledeen’s professional interests include ADHD-related burnout, emotional dysregulation, and supporting people in high-performance environments — including medical professionals, whose difficulties he understands from the inside. He also has a longstanding interest in the meeting point between eastern psychology and his Western psychiatric training, which informs a thoughtful, reflective style of practice.
His approach is unhurried, curious and collaborative. Assessments give proper weight to each person’s history and circumstances rather than working through a checklist, and patients consistently describe feeling listened to without having to justify themselves. Treatment decisions are made together, with clear explanations of the options and honest discussion of what medication can and cannot do — and, in keeping with the practice’s approach, his letters and reports are written to be genuinely useful to the patient and their GP alike.
Outside the clinic
Outside work, Dr Kamaledeen trains in Muay Thai, is an avid runner, designs and builds watches, and reads poetry. He lives in London and returns often to Edinburgh, his childhood home.
Patient feedback
Dr Kamaledeen invites feedback through the Consultation and Relational Empathy (CARE) Measure, the validated 10‑item questionnaire used across the practice to assess patient‑centred consultation skills.
In his most recent audit, his overall mean CARE score was 4.91 out of 5.0 against a published normative median of 4.67, based on 17 anonymous patient responses and 170 scorable item ratings. Of those ratings, 91.8% were “Excellent” and a further 7.6% “Very Good”, with his scores exceeding the normative median across all ten CARE domains.
“It is the first time I felt truly heard by a medical professional when discussing these difficulties.”
“Dr Kamaledeen was both professional and caring. He was willing to listen to my circumstances and did not at any point make me feel like I was having to justify myself.”
Anonymous CARE survey response
“I have been treated with kindness, consideration and respect — which have been sorely lacking in my previous healthcare.”
Anonymous CARE survey response
“Dr Kamaledeen helped make the process stressless and straight forward and came across as non judgemental and easy to open up to.”
Anonymous CARE survey response
“Dr Kamaledeen listened to me actively demonstrating empathy and understanding, explaining things in terms that I understood and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to be assessed for ADHD.”
Anonymous CARE survey response
“The follow-up letters that Dr Kamaledeen has sent to the GP after my monthly appointments have been very helpful and detailed. As a student, I have a limited income and was hesitant to go private for my treatment due to the costs, but my expectations have been exceeded and the price is absolutely worth it for the high quality of care I receive.”
Anonymous CARE survey response
“Dr Kamaledeen has been fantastic in eliciting responses from me to form an understanding of my condition, in communicating to me the probable underlying causes and his reasoning in forming a diagnosis, and in discussing treatment options. I look forward to future discussions with him.”
